Pendant and necklace lenght

How to choose the length of a pendant or necklace

Before choosing the length of a necklace, keep in mind that the same size can look different on two people. This will depend on body type, height, neck and torso. Your personal style and the clothes you wear will also influence the look; a high neckline is not the same as a deep V-neck.

Bear in mind that, for pendants, the length varies not only with the chain or cord but also according to whether the pendant is small or large, or whether it has a more vertical or horizontal shape. This will affect how the pendant sits on your body.

Different lengths

  • 40 cm – Necklaces that fit very high and sit close to the neck
  • 45 cm – Short necklace that falls just below the base of the neck
  • 50 cm – Necklace that falls around the middle of the chest
  • 60 – 70 cm – Long necklace
  • 70 – 90 cm – Very long necklace

How to measure the length of your necklace

There are two ways to measure the desired length of your necklace at home.

* Please note that the cords we use are stiffer than a normal chain, which means the pendant will sit in a more rounded position rather than pointing downwards like a chain, and may therefore sit slightly higher on the neck than usual.

1. Measure your necklace

  • Lay your open necklace on a table.
  • Using a ruler or measuring tape, measure the total length of the necklace (including the clasp).
  • The measurement obtained is the length of your necklace.

2. Approximate measurement on your body

  • Stand in front of a mirror and, using a flexible tape measure (or a long piece of cord or ribbon), wrap it around your neck, joining the two ends at the point where you want the necklace to rest.
  • If using cord or ribbon, use a ruler to measure the chosen length.

* Bear in mind that if there is a pendant on the chain, you will need to add the height of the pendant to the chain length to know exactly how the piece will sit.

Bangle size

How to measure bangles correctly? There are three methods.

1. Measure the circumference of your hand for a closed bangle

  • To measure your hand correctly, place it as if you were putting on the bangle (catch the thumb in the palm of your hand).
  • Wrap the measuring tape around the knuckles of your hand, including the thumb.
  • Mark the point where the tape overlaps. This is the exact circumference or size of your hand.

2. Measure your wrist for open bangles designed to sit snugly around your wrist

  • Place a flexible tape measure around your wrist, at the top of the wrist bone (not directly over the bone, but on the side closest to you and away from the hand), so that it sits comfortably without being too tight or too loose.
  • Mark where the tape overlaps. This is the circumference of your wrist.

* You can also use a piece of cord, fabric tape, or a strip of paper.

3. Measure a bangle that already fits you

  • Place a rigid ruler across the bangle and measure, at its midpoint, the inside width from one side to the other.
  • This measurement will help you know which size to look for when buying a new bracelet.
